Photo Tag

I was tagged by the lovely Christy of Wongturn. Thank you Christy! If you have not had the pleasure yet, you should visit her blog.

The rules of the Tag:

1. Open your 1st Photo folder.
2. Scroll to the 10th photo.
3. Post the photo and the story behind it.
4. Tag 5 or more people.

The picture I found has no direct connection to me, but it's an interesting look back in time. The pic is one of many family photos we discovered in a cabinet at my father-in-law's house. He doesn't know exactly when it was taken, but he guessed it was during the 1920s. He and his wife's families both come from the area where the states of Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky border each other--it's part of the Appalachian Mountains. It's coal country.

My in-laws grew up there, but moved to DC after getting married. Thank goodness! If they had not moved, I would be a confirmed bachelor for life. My wife asks me fairly often what my life would be like if we hadn't met and that's what I tell her. I also tell her I would have a LOT of money!!! LOL

I randomly tag Mel, Megan, Blair, Stiletto Girl, eQ, and any of you wonderful bloggers who can stand another photo-related assignment!!! =)

PS - Just FYI, my kids don't resemble any of these ancestors from their mom's side of the family.

  6. That's a very very old photo! It's good that you were able to keep it. You did scan it right?
I'll try to look for a photo too, if there's something worth posting. I think I can still squeeze in another photo-related assignment.

  9. Wow, I love how photos tell lots of stories. Amazing :)

You're lucky to have gotten hold of a photo this old, I lost all my pictures from when I was a baby until I was 14 years old because of a fire that burned our house down :(

  10. This is my reply to one of your comments:
Ahaha. I haven't reached that level yet. Even if I wanted to call myself a camwhore, I know I'm not because I don't obsess about taking photos of myself, but I do love photos, taking photos of different subjects, and experimenting that's why I need different and a lot of materials.Ü
So yeah, I think I'm in between.

@applePIE: In part it was hard times and part becuz they live in feud country--they have scary stories.

@ChinkyGirLMeL: I'll look for more oldies to share!

@Christy: Maybe the rest of them were worried the camera would take their soul.
The Chesapeake watershed area is the best!

@r u s s: I need to scan more before they deteriorate too much. haha, yeah definitely not a cam-whore...it's always a pleasant surprise when you post a pic!

@Leah: Shhhhh!!! {too bad you can't see the message I'm blinking to you in morse code} LOL

@Laikka: Thank you! You have a great week too. =)

@Toothfairy: It is a cool thing for my kids and my wife's family--especially since my kids don't resemble them!!!

  14. ooohhh i love this! actually i just look looking at ppl's family pics. and that 'having more money' line is pretty funny haha..but better be less rich but happier right? :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. @Manju: Absolutely! It's fun to tease a little, but no one who had happiness would trade it for money. =)

  22. Wow, that's an old picture! I really love old pictures, because they have so much tell.

We don't even own such an old picture :-))
Which is quite a pity. Since I grew up in Germany I don't know much about my parents families in Vietnam.

    Great tag anyway!
