noreply-comment @ blogger.com

My blog is set to forward your comments to my e-mail account. On occasion, one of you leaves a comment that is so great, I want to reply right away--without having to go into Blogger (which is always slow). So without hesitation, I hit "reply" to the e-mail and the words flow into my messsage just as they did for Ralphie's theme paper in "A Christmas Story". Some of these messages get through. Unfortunately, my best replies end up not going to you. Instead they go to the "noreply-comment @ blogger.com" e-mail address the system uses for bloggers who don't share their e-mail account on their profile page. My most pithy prose and insightful insights, lost forever. So sad!

Once I realized I was doing that (sending messages w/out 1st checking to confirm they were going to a real e-mail account), I imagined a guy named Larry @ Blogger spending his free time going through all of those mis-directed messages. They're all the poor guy has in his life.

So, is it just me, or have you sent Larry a message or two since you started bloging?

  3. It's so cool, but apparently it deletes all the comments from other posts so I'm a lil hesitant about it.

  4. haha yes, I've definitely done that once in awhile. So, you mean that not everyone with a blogger account that shows up here, connects to an email address when you hit reply?

  5. haha thats kinda funny! well i always try to reply directly on the person's post/blog. i figured i have a blackberry if i have comments forward to my email, my phone would be blinking non-stop(on top of all my other incoming emails) and eventually battery will die in mid-day LOL

  10. For some reason, "Larry" reminds me of Milton Waddams. XP

  11. I haven't responded to anyone by email, so "Larry" hasn't been able to read my mail. I do find the comment thing frustrating though. I want to be able to respond to comments within my blog, but don't want to have it be another comment itself. And the way I write my blog doesn't lend itself to answering comments within the body of the blog. I tried Disqus, but it wouldn't import the previous comments from Blogger, so I ditched it. If I had been able to get it to work it would have solved my problems. Have you thought about Disqus?

And you can't leave me hanging like that- what is the name of the cookbook? After all, my rules don't say I have to get rid of 3 cookbooks. Just 3 books, and those I can easily find. :-)

  12. Haha, at least Larry can get the chance to make many new friends. =p

There was a time when I love replying people via email, but it's more because I'm not certain if they will go back to my post and search to see if I give a reply. But that becomes a hassle, because in many cases, I only see Larry's email address when I reply.

  13. Please enlighten me. I don't quite understand what you mean and I feel lost when everyone else understands. I have also enabled comments to be sent to my email for notification and after eading this, I tried hitting the reply button on my email to see what happens and it's replied to noreply-comment @ blogger.com. Is that what you mean? I'm confused here.

I would always reply on my blog post itself (just for keepsake) and at times on the blog of the person who left the comment. However, I can't find a way such that my reply to the comment appears just below that comment instead of a separate comment. I saw bloggers with pages that show their reply under the comment or in a different colour but I'm not sure how to enable that.

  14. Oh! Now I get it! Thanx for your very detailed explanation. I tried hitting the reply button on my email to your comment and yes, there's your email @ attached! I never knew that! I've always thought blog comments notification sent to emails are those no reply kind so I never ever reply from there. Thus, I didn't know what you meant initially.

I personally don't like disqus. I stopped commenting on 2 person's blog coz of disqus. Somehow, no matter whether I use open ID or email or nickname, I just keep getting error messages. Or is it just me being a noob again (just like the time when I didn't know how to get my follwer settings right).

I think Larry and some other Harry, Barry and Garry at some virtual bloggerland have got their faces hit by lots of flying mails to nowhere!
