Just as the words left my lips, the man closest to me pulled a collapsible cane out of his bag. He was blind!!! Inside, I shrunk to the size of a Liliputian. Trying to act as if I had not just done something dumb, I turned to his friend and said, "Wow, the moon looks amazing tonight!" He agreed and I walked quickly out of the station. As I walked away, I heard the two share a chuckle. Thankfully the guy had a sense of humor.
But I feel like an idiot anyway. What were the odds of a blind man being the person closest to me at that momment--and me not having noticed that earlier??? *sigh*
To make myself feel better, I'm claiming some awards today. Fatima from Through This Haze passed me the Versatile Blogger Award and Clai from My Life at 20's tagged me with the Stylish Blogger Award. Thank you ladies, I do feel a little better--but still dumb!!! And thank you to all of my blog friends who take the time to stop by. I have a better "thank you" in the works. =)

hhehe..oh how I miss your stories rick..its good to be back again:)
ReplyDeleteyeah..blame it to the moon:) lovely!
congratz on the awards and haha aww, I'm sure he didn't mind :) and haha your comment made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha, awww, poor you! That must've felt awful!
ReplyDeleteOnce, when I'd just begun teaching, I decided to play a game with my students - a quizz about the subject taught the day before. But the game involved clapping their hands. Well, didn't I forget that one of the students didn't have one arm, and thus couldn't clap! God, I've never felt SO stupid in my entire life!...
So don't worry: it happens to the best of us! ;)
you're very welcome.
ReplyDeletewait, what?
haha that's a cute story. I'm sure he didn't mind, you're obviously such a nice a guy that it would be apparent you didn't mean anything bad by it.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha...the things that happen to you...only happen in movies...or so I thought. Life really is funny so laugh!!! :) the two strangers you talked to sure ended up laughing! :D so you see, you put smiles on their faces so it's still a good thing. :)
ReplyDeleteI love blog posts that make me choke on my morning cup of tea because they surprise me with something funny in them. :-)
ReplyDeleteLol that's kinda funny to say the least, but I'm sure he appreciated you sharing it with him. Haven't been posting since abroad right now, but see ya soon!
ReplyDeleteXx
Hey Rick!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I lack in comments lately, work is really busy, hahaha! But I will catch up on reading and commenting really soon :-))
I missed reading your stories!! XDD
Hmm, it is not settled yet, but I'll return to Germany probably in September or October, so you had better send it to my home address :-))
I'm so much looking forward to getting that homemade gift!! What will it be?? XDDD
funny! the moon in my part of the globe was shining so beautiful last night too!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the odds, indeed. I swear, the most unique experiences happen to you Rick, thank you for sharing them with us! :)
ReplyDeleteI also love looking at the moon. I especially love a full moon on a clear sky. One of my favorite similes is "as mysterious as the dark side of the moon." Okay, how many times did I say the word moon? ;D
Oh you lucky thing! You deserve it!
ReplyDeletecongrats on the awards you stud!
ReplyDeletecute story about the blind man. i think he appreciated hearing that the moon looked amazing.
Once, when waiting to cross the street, I saw a man posing awkwardly, one hand on his hip and the other hand placed on his knee, as if he was being photographed for "worst poses in history". I chuckled to myself. When it was time to cross the street, I saw that his left leg was thinner than the other one. He had polio as a child and walked with a limp. I felt so guilty.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Sounds like something out of an episode of 30Rock. :P
ReplyDelete(Stay warm!)
hahaha it happens! just think of it this way - it's not as bad as saying to a woman "oh, when are you due???" when in fact, she is only overweight and not pregnant. hahaha! That would be worse!!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, so it sounds a bit awkward BUT on the good side...just think...why not share something that he can't "see" but can still hear about it...from my view its good that you treated him as any other human being and glad to know he had a sense of humor bc it worked out for both of you! lol
ReplyDeletelol. what happened if that guy didn't have a sense of humor?
ReplyDeletecongrats for the awards! :)
hhehe:) I know of a story somewhat like this..hmm but too long to tell here in comments..maybe I will do a post also on my site..hehe! thanks for sharing Rick..as always!
ReplyDeletei think what you did was very cute! yes, of all people the one you shared that very nice moment was with a blind man. i'm sure he appreciates it and forgives you for the honest mistake.
ReplyDeletedid you take a photo of the sky that time?
p.s. i also do that, usually with my husband. whenever i see anything on the horizon, i tell him to look at it right away.
funny, I once asked this dude to take a pic for me and he turned out to be blind. I felt horrible after. btw I will get back to you on the giveaway soon- lately it's just so hectic with everything
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know how to react if I were you! LOL
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't your fault! Don't feel so bad... At least you did not ask the question twice (to him), that would have been funnier! Hahahahaha! I see the header is now up... Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteOoh my I can totally imagine how you feel.. I have those kind of moments (much more often than you I"m sure)!! I was at grocery shopping a couple months ago and asked someone if he knew where something was.. he looked like he was confused so I thought he didnt understand me and I repeated my question.. it took me a while to realize he was deaf :| It only hit me when he took out a pen and paper to give to me yikes. Don't worry I think you were very cunning in turning to his friend instead, much better than leaving it be awkward silence :P
ReplyDeleteI hope you've been well, Rick. & I would love to serve on the jury of that.. dog killer "religious" lady grr!
No way!!! I was very sure I left a comment on the previous post on your house! Why can't I find it? Did I sleepily type and click the x button when the comment wasn't sent yet???
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I've wanted to say that your house gives a nostalgic storybook feeling. It looks like it popped up from one of my childhood books. I think the editing in colour contrast, saturation etc helps in creating that effect. I'm sure you had GREAT fun at your place with your many interesting life stories. I'd also wanted to say that I was unable to view the header (back then)
And now, I wanna scream NNNOOOOOOOO!!! You didn't change your header and blogskin did you? Have I not been here for so long? I got a huge surprise of my life when I no longer see the dark blue with colourful circles template. I love this new look a lot.
Oh no worries about the little boo boo you made. I think it's perfectly alright to share your enthusiasm. I would think that the blind man could imagine a beautiful moon in his mind's eye. I didn't think it was anything silly at all. There are many other sillier egs aaai heard. We all have times like this too... hmm... wait... I can't think of mine. LoLz
Congrats on your blog awards!
Rick Rick Rick ... you were just so caught up with the moon. There's no reason to feel dumb. I wouldn't coz it's not like I have to mark every passenger who sat in the same train with me.
ReplyDeleteNew blog layout, I like it! You still intend to hide yourself? No new profile pic???
yeah I understand of you being busy..thanks anyway for still dropping by inspite of:)
ReplyDeleteHope everythings okey...have a nice day my friend!
