Is there a particular type of movie moment that pushes your buttons and gets you choked up? Please note: Guys don't cry because of a movie. Any movie. My dad taught me that. But it IS okay to get a little choked-up, be quiet about it, and then deny it later. =)
I watched a movie last night that has me thinking about a particular type of movie moment that can stir your emotions....the type where people (or a person) put the good of the many ahead of the good of the few, or the one. Yes, that's a Star Trek reference--how could you not be moved when Spock put his face right in the radiation stream to save the Enterprise and her crew in the Wrath of Khan???
Star Trek scenes may be Greek to you, but that's okay. Those moments occur in lots of movies. The one I watched last night (that got me thinking about this) was Air Force One. Not a tear-jerker???
When that fighter pilot purposely flew into the path of a missile to save the President and his family (aboard Air Force One)...gulp! That's a great movie moment. The guy knew he had no chance of survival. Most of us would do that for our loved ones, but for someone we never met? Wow!
Of course, those are just movies. Thankfully those moments are not limited to just movies. They happen in real life too. They have happened and will continue to happen. THAT is really moving. Not sure why I'm thinking about that on such a good Friday, but it's a comforting thought.
PS - If we ever watch Bambi or Shane together, please don't try to talk to me near the end. I'll be...ah...thinking, yeah, thinking about something critical, so no talking. =)
Happy Easter!
i was never a crier during movies but since i had my daughter, it seems that i've turned into a wuss!!! any scene with a parent missing her child or vice versa or some sort of touching family moment, the flood gates open and i turn into an ugly, weepy mess. and i'm so embarrassed to admit this but some scenes on the show Private Practice will reduce me to that mess
ReplyDeleteMovies with that type of theme almost always gets me a little emotional. T_T That and lost love...hehe.
ReplyDeleteI bawled at the end of Khan. Especially when Spock puts his hand to the glass and says, "I have been and always shall be your friend. Live long and prosper." Tears were streaming down my face.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a crier during films. I cry every time I see Moulin Rouge, the beginning and end of UP! and almost every movie I see, haha!
Hope you have a great Easter weekend!
I would cry to that Air force one moment..
ReplyDeleteHeroes are heroes...salute to them..
Im not into tear jerking movies, but when Im alone and no one will notice that Im crying because of a movie..I'd like to try
I wonder why is it embarassing..lol..like i will deny it to death that I didn't cry...
I'm a sap so I tear up at the littlest things, but that's just it- the littlest things. Those big emotional scenes? Nope. I may get a bit misty-eyed but I never cry. (So of course people thought I was a heartless bish when I was stoic all the way through Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close)
ReplyDeleteI don't usually cry in movies but there are some that definitely do get me choked up like you said! I am not a huge fan of sad movies anyway....I prefer action movies, James Bond is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteGood question. Maybe? I've no clue. XD
ReplyDeleteA number of guys have told me that they get teary-eyed when they watch Rudy. I cry over the littlest things--I cry while watching Junior Master Chef (because the kids are so talented, and I love seeing their parents/grandparents beam with pride) and So You Think You Can Dance (when I see an exceptionally beautiful dancer or wonderfully choreographed number)! Movies with heartbreaking scenes featuring parents and kids really get to me. (E.g., Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Cedric dies and his dad cries out, "My boy!" I'm a wuss, I know.)
ReplyDeleteBambi... Oh I cried so much back then.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Star Trek or Air Force One but those moments sound like tearjerker moments for me too.
I usually cry for animal shows, somehow? Am I inHUMANe in that sense?
