This was a long week, very tiring, with good moments and bad. Before I go any farther, I want to share that I received my annual performance evaluation at work. My boss wrote in it, "Rick is the most patient person I know." Granted, she doesn't get out much, but still, it means something.
I shared that because I found myself having to bite my tongue this week. One evening after work I was standing behind a fellow on the escalator down into the subway station. He was looking down and I thought he was paying attention. The bottom of an escalator makes no attempt to sneak up on you. It pretty much just sits there. But he was not paying attention, he was texting. He had a case of some sort sitting one step ahead of him and he got tangled up with it when it caught on the lip of the escalator's base plate. I managed to jump to the left to avoid rear-ending him, but he caused the tourists behind him to pile-up and some fell. No one got hurt. I moved his case so people could get past and then started to say, "I hope that's not the smartest thing you've done today," but I bit my tongue because I could see he was shaken. Hopefully he realized it was dumb to put his case down so he could text during a 15 second escalator ride.
The next morning on the train a young man (maybe 16?) was loudly mumbling along with the song he was listening to on his iPod. Many DC children use the subway to get to school. As he and I exited the train together, a comment popped into my head, "I hope what you're listening to sounds better than what you shared with us." But again, I bit my tongue...he was just a kid and I knew I was overly tired and in a mood.
I was out of sorts because I worked way too many hours this week and my organization's senior management made a decision to throw away a HUGE amount of money on an IT system. I told our budget director that unless the system will be programmed to steal money from people's bank accounts, there's no way it will be worth the investment. He agreed, but no one listened to him either. Hopefully our Board will kill the idea when it's presented to them.
Okay, other than that it was a good week. My father-in-law's knee surgery went well and everyone is healthy...so no more grumpy-gus--or Mr. Wilson (from Dennis the Menace).
It's the weekend, so smiles all around!!! =)
*big huggggg* it's saturday!!! :)
ReplyDeletep.s. i know i suck at commenting, but i do read all your posts!! <3
p.s there's someone snoring next to my room - must be one of the other doctors. i'm currently working despite the fact that i'm down with bad flu :(
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! I love the comments you didn't make! But yeah, it was nice of you not to make them!
ReplyDeleteSee, this is why I don't sing in public - so some smartass like yourself won't say stuff like that to me - granted, I would've earned it.
"Granted, she doesn't get out much, but still, it means something." and "The bottom of an escalator makes no attempt to sneak up on you. It pretty much just sits there." simply killed me now, LOL!
*big hugs* Enjoy your weekend!!!
Yay for the weekend! I hope you're feeling better! I'm glad to hear that your father in law is doing well and that you weren't hurt cause of that tool who was texting on the escalator =)
ReplyDeleteRemind me to never get on your bad side. LoL
As always thank you for the lovely comments you always leave. They make my day!
congrats on getting a positive review : ) i am still working on patience...i can't resist at least giving an ignorant person my "death look" lol even if i don't tell them off. *sigh* my week has been pretty good, lots of blogging, less homework=more fun. xo
ReplyDeleteor no more grinch... lol... that's more apt for the season :D I better apply that advice to myself as well! :) let's not be grinch-es.:D
ReplyDeleteYay for the weekends! They definitely help one to de-stress and get away from it all. I'm happy to hear you had a good review. Stress can make anyone into a Mr. Wilson so you're not alone. If only people could be more like you and bite their tongues sometimes...hehe. Glad to hear your FIL's surgery went well.
ReplyDeletecongrats on the success of your father-in-law's knee surgery, hope he gets better soon.
ReplyDeletewe do have weeks like that where there's so many things to be irritated about. i also try to be patient with the little things although i admit it gets to me too.
hope we'll all have a better week ahead!
You're either a extreme Mr Nice Guy or Mr Diablo. I wonder what would happen if you utter your thoughts out loud? Well I absolutely hate people who get off slowly from the escalator too. Worse still that they didn'realise their slowness had caused me to nearly step on them but I had to side step and get step on others instead.
ReplyDeleteI hope work has been kinder on you lately and good to hear that your FIL's surgery went well.
Sometimes when I heard someone hummed the song they're hearing, I always have the urge to say that too! But of course I bit my tongue as well :D
ReplyDeleteGlad to know your FIL's surgery went well!
ryc: You're using a lotion?? :P What lotion is that?
Thank you for the idea! But my dinner on sunday was just oatmeal, LOL.
Aw, you know I was on the bus the other day and I saw a poster which said, "please turn the music down, no one wants to listen to your music, please be considerate" but then I was thinking, most people talk so loud on the bus, and lets be honest, no one wants to know other peoples business, especially when some people talk so randomly about their personal life so loud. Now thats inconsiderate I think when people do that. If anything I think they should change the poster to a more of a health warning sign, because loud music can damage your ears and you can also become unaware of traffic when crossing the road with your headphones on.
ReplyDeleteSorry its such a long comment (: its not that Im having a go at your post hehe Im just expressing how I felt that day on the bus after seeing that poster (: your post just reminded me of that day.
Hey, hope youre having a lovely week ahead!
Dear, Moi. I plead guilty to listening to loud music. But if you could let me explain, I promise I've got a good excuse.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a talker and I keep to myself most of the time, buried in between the pages of a reading material. But it seems to me that people are getting more and more inconsiderate and/or rude by the bucket loads these days. Kids as young as 16 year old come up to females traveling solo whispering obscenities. I remember when I was younger, I told a boy to piss off. That he hasn't seen the world enough to understand the words he's saying. I ended up getting followed by him and his gang - nothing bad happened, fortunately. Many a time I've heard out of context indiscretion - most of which I regretted overhearing. Technology is supposed to make life easier for the likes of us - and it seemed like a grand idea to drown out the unsolicited one-sided conversations.
P/s; I am writing this half asleep. I'm probably not making any sense.
We all get moments like that when we feel like just going to an empty room and shout obscenities to our heart's content. LOL I don't know if you feel that way sometimes but I admit I totally do! XD I hope that in spite of the glitches, you still enjoy the rest of the week :)
ReplyDeleteAww I have definitely had weeks like that, where every little thing pisses you off. When that happens, I retreat from everyone for a bit and indulge in a little "me" time - maybe that will help you too?
