Mirrors

I guess it is common knowledge that, in general, men and women interpret their reflections in different--opposite--ways. When I first joined the on-line community, my profile picture was this one of a meek kitten looking into a mirror and seeing a fierce lion staring back. I love that image. The first time I saw it I laughed and said it must be a male kitten, because that is how most men's brains work. Even the guy on the beach with the magical, disappearing Speedo thinks "Yeah, that beer, burrito, and ice cream diet has me looking gooooood" when he sees his reflection. LOL

This cartoon illustrates perfectly the different impact mirrors have, in general, on women vs. men. This is old news. The reason I'm posting about it is because I know a few girls who have been really hard on themselves lately. I hope it's just a spring thing and passes quickly. I know this probably won't help, but please be conscious of this "phenomenon" and try not to give in to it. Next time you don't like your reflection, ask your BF, or hubby, or that guy stalking you down the street how you look that day. He'll say "beautiful"!!!

PS - I would have said ask me, but I'm assuming I AM that guy stalking you down the street! ;P

PSS - Also, you're so much more than your reflection. My blogger friends are smart, funny, decent people--the kind I like hanging around with.

  3. mirrors can be so evil sometimes. I've known way too many people who don't see what others see. Thank God I have more positive days than bad days when looking in the mirror

    Your wife must love you!

  5. i love the pictures and explanations :) well, im not really like the woman in the picture who sees a fat reflection. i just see things realistically, and i know better than to starve myself dieting then binge the next day (LOL), now im just being more healthy. and i love the feeling :)

beauty is very subjective, i love how my/our blogger buddies appreciate all forms of it. :)

ps.i know! i was so thrilled when i opened the freebie pouch from shu uemura! you're right, it definitely made the cost of the nobara stick less. woohooo!

  7. I'd like to think I see a realistic reflection of myself when I look in the mirror, but I guess there are some mirrors where I look pretty and there are some I don't. Pretty twisted, huh? :D I don't stress myself so much over physical appearances, though. When I feel ugly (usually when I'm PMS-ing, I just slip on pretty shoes and feel better :D

  10. This is false. I don't think that way at all when I look in the mirror. Haha... yeah right! I don't ask it, but I think it to myself... "does this make me look fat? yes... yes it does!"

I'll have to decide whether or not I'm going to post the handcuff story. Haha. And no it's not a medical asst thing (re: the watches). We have 2 completely different watches. You're just a boy that thinks all girls stuff looks the same. Hahahaha. =P

I actually like my mirror reflection!! Am I the only girl worldwide?? XDDD
I came to accept myself quite early, since I've always been different, and that's what makes me special. Well, that's what I told myself :-))

I don't know who exactly you address in your last compliment, but the same goes for you, too! :-)) You're a great blogger, Rick!

  17. Very well said Rick. I can't deny that I too have had days when I looked in the mirror and thought to myself, gosh, I look awful. I love that picture of the male cat with the image of a fierce lion. =)

  18. hmmm, i know this is a major issue. and it really saddens me when girls that are very fit, healthy and beautiful say they need to lose a "few more pounds." --> this actually came from one of the girls in my aerobics class.

anywhooo, i find this post funny coz when i look at the mirror, i generally don't look "good." i tend to criticize my (nonexistent) flabs. Especially after eating...LOL.

  23. Gosh, you post this at the right time RIc..I've been feeling bad about myself gaining to much weight..Sometimes I even blame the mirror for making me look fatter than I'm supposed to be..Self-denial much? But well, I think I'm just being to hard to myself..Should loosen up a bit..
