Valentine's Day is great (better some years than others), but I think it's important to also celebrate the friendships we have. Romantic love is wonderful, I don't want to sell that short--it's worth celebrating (just not with diamonds and flowers on February 14th). But when you think about all the people in your life, over the course of your lifetime, you have much more opportunity to experience the kind of love you get from friends and family--even Zsa Zsa Gabor only married 9 times. Maybe I never got over the fun of giving Valentines to friends back in elementary school. Although, that could be a little stressful--you had to make sure to match the Valentine to the person. What if the "Be Mine" accidentally went to Fred??? Those envelopes all got checked twice before going into anyone's foil wrapped shoebox.
Now I want to say Happy Valentine's Day to all my friends...and announce the winners of the sparkly stuff from Pop Champagne. Just for entering, people earned one entry. Entering also unlocked one entry for each comment the person made on my blog during December--a time when everyone is busy preparing for or wrapping up one thing or another. The entries went into an Excel spreadsheet and the random number generating function assigned a number to each. Since PC had five cool pendants, the entries assigned the five lowest numbers are the winners (see screen capture @ the bottom of post). They are:
#1 - Heart Pendant: Meibelle
#2 - Starfish Pendant: Jo
#3 - Star Pendant: Dina
#4 - Starfish Pendant: de.lizzy.cious
#5 - Heart Pendant: Shop N' Chomp
To claim your pendants, please send your address to Julie @ julie_lan@hotmail.com. Have you ever been to her contact page? She has a great sense of humor. I just read that you can write to her if you have a bad dream, so I'll be filling up her in-box very soon! Also, you can send me your address if you want a birthday card, but for the pendants, send it to Julie. I'd probably just send you an e-card anyway. ;P

I've won???!!!!!!

Is this what we call the luck of the sick people?!
Hmmmmmm.
oh, thank you thank you thank you thank you!! =D happy valentine's day, ric!
ReplyDeleteI remember the shoebox holders for Valentine cards! And buying the boxes of pre-made Valentine's and trying to sort through and find ones that fit the person on the receiving end. Also, those horrible tasting little hearts with words stamped on them. Do they still make those?
ReplyDeleteI think you need to make those cookies I featured on my blog today, Rick. It would be a great surprise for your wife and kids. :-)

ReplyDeletedang... i didn't know that spreadsheets can go that complicated O_O that looks like a lot of work :X
ReplyDeleteanyway... congrats to the lovely people who won!!!! ^__^
happy valentines day! congrats to the winner, you are so sweet! anyways, yes i totally agree about the spreadsheets being too much work....I am contemplating on using the random.org to determine the winner of my giveaway...geez. lol...
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo- that is SO COOL that you work at the smithsonian museum...is this the same one that ben stiller was in? LOL. i sure hope they don't cut your guys budget, i feel like the government is turning to everything sacred and underrated to cut budgets when they can cut budgets from bigger things...
right now...spreadsheets or hats or random.orgs are still very far from my mind. *lol* i'd have to think of a giveaway first then cross the bridge when I'm there. haha. if I do a giveaway now, I think all 13 followers of mine will win, including you Ric :D...then that wouldn't be exciting, would it?
ReplyDeleteBeen missing alot here. Hope to catch this the next time. Glad you're back blogging again.

ReplyDelete(Yep, they sell men's clothing)
Omg I remember back in the day writing all those valentines cards to everyone! I used to write one for every person in my class and by the end my hand was all cramped from writing!
ReplyDeleteHow did you celebrate valentine's day? And congrats to the winners!!!
ReplyDeleteI’ve won? I actually won an international giveaway? I entered just for fun actually. It’s such a pleasant surprise! I’m usually those kind who sit there and wait but not win stuff at lucky draws but I’ve been quite lucky lately. Just won the 3rd prize hamper from my company’s Chinese New Year celebration last night. I was reading and rereading and I still can’t figure how the spreadsheet works. Am I dense or what? I don’t think I can ever hold a giveaway coz I wouldn’t know how to derive at my winner’s name. LoLz. I’ll contact Julie soon.
ReplyDeleteI think V-day was a whole lot more fun during school days. Just like you, it was really a day of friendship where we would write little cards and notes for one another, give chocolates, balloons, soft toys and even flowers. It was really fun. I always ended up with a bagful of gifts from friends. V-day was my favourite day of the year other than my birthday and xmas. As I grew older, I found V-day more commercialised. Even my hubby and I don’t celebrate on the actual day despite it being our dating anniversary as well. Paying more than 100bucks for a bouquet of flowers is so not worth it; I told my hubby never buy me flowers but to gimme the money instead. I made a mistake, I’ve not received flowers from him ever since then.
OMG, thank you so much Rick! Congrats to other winners too :D Will be writing to Julie in a bit!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that everyday is Valentine's Day for you, as it should be! :D lol I need to catch your giveaway next time, so generous of you to give away 5 pendants!!
