I had supper at the Olive Garden on Sunday--it was a family thing. The toasted ravioli in the appetizer was okay, as was the calamari. I ordered the Shrimp & Crab Tortelli Romana--it's crab and smoked mozzarella-filled ravioli, topped with sautéed shrimp in a three cheese and sun-dried tomato sauce. It was surprisingly good. Until I found the hidden prize.
I was 3/4 of the way done when I felt a disturbing "crunch". I thought I broke a tooth. I had no choice but to spit everything out into a napkin. After removing the food, I found four or five little pieces of tempered glass. On the bright side, I was almost finished when it happened; I was not hurt; and I saved $27 (the cost of the ravioli and appetizer). But I don’t think I’ll be going to the Olive Garden again--and maybe you shouldn't either!!!
Two funny things: 1) when I picked up the biggest chunk of glass to show the manager, he took it right out of my hand and started examining it--even though he knew I had just spit it out of my mouth. Yuck!!! 2) Halfway home I started imagining I could feel tiny little cuts on my tongue. There are none--it was just my imagination. Wait, I think I feel it again now! :P
Whoa...how did that get in there? Hopefully, your tongue/mouth didn't get a hidden cut...
ReplyDeleteAfter finding hairs and stuff in certain foods that I ate I noticed that I tend to avoid those foods altogether...so far it happened two times...

ReplyDeletebarf and ouch man.
Ehhh, glass in your food? How on earth did it happen?!!
ReplyDeleteThat was scary Rick! Oh gosh, just the thought of having cuts in your mouth, yikes!! >.<
ReplyDeleteSeriously?! I've had hair (eww) and a piece of plastic in my food but never have a piece of glass..That's really dangerous..
ReplyDeleteoh dear, im glad you're alright rick! a cut in your tongue is never good! but yeah, how did a chunk of glass end up in your ravioli? eeek!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA yeah thats disgusting, he didn't even bother to hold it with a napkin? YUCK. :P
heehee. were really good friends so looking good is not a problem ;) thank you for always being kind with your sweet compliments rick! now i know why your wife said yes to you! LOL ;)
i do hope you're right about me not being sick until next year after this one! hahaha
Please rinse your mouth!
ReplyDeleteoh that is preeeetyyy sordid

Woaahhhh, wth was that! You could have hurt yourself badly with that glass! I'm glad nothing serious happened. That's why my Mum always tells me to chew before I swallow, hahaha! (well, that was a bad joke, I'm sorry! XDD)
ReplyDeleteIck, ick, ick. Hopefully it was at least clean glass! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy sister told me that if you get a bad experience with your food, like when you find some kinda dirt or really terrible things in it and you've already eaten like halfway, then you must've pissed the waiter or the server that he had to mess with your food as revenge. I don't think you did something that made the waiter angry, though.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is an expert on how to annoy waiters.
Poor you! Well at least you got your $27! hahah something similar happened when I went to Manhattan Fish Market recently; there was a piece of plexiglass in the mudpie! I got a $10 voucher out of that. LOL.
ReplyDeleteoh no! I would've demanded something more. LOL What if you actually cut your mouth? Luckily you didn't!
ReplyDeleteomg glass?! I think they should have paid the entire table free for that. you could have easily swallowed that! haven't they seen that bart simpson vs cereal toy epsoide on the simpsons?!
ReplyDeleteanyways, our health care kinda sucks actually, since it's free the wait line for walk in clinics are usually an hour and half, doesn't matter when you go in, and you still gotta pay for the drugs anyways.. unless you need surgey etc (which you have to wait a longgg time still) it's not worth how much taxes we pay... maybe i should go break my arm a few times or knock up a few kids just to get my money worth :P
What?! I already didn't like this place. Now you've given me another reason to stay away.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap that's dangerous!! How the heck did that happen I wonder.
ReplyDeleteOh wow... I've found some really crazy stuff in my food before too. Glad you're ok. I do love Olive Garden though. Actually, despite the story, I still want some chicken parmesan right now! ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't think my friends were nervous at their wedding at all. They've been together for 8 years so I think they felt married already you know? And also... the groom is a goofball. :)
OHH NOO they didn't...when did they add glass into their stuffing!!?? im sorry to hear that, but it really sucks when your meal is ruined..nomore olive garden..or next time if you do go back..when you order, just tell them skip the glass LOL
ReplyDeletexx
Whoa, are you serious?!? I never liked Olive Garden but now I don't think I'll be going in case I swallow glass!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are okay :) and that you got your money back!
CLOTHED MUCH, a modest fashion blog
Yikes!!! How awful! This reminds me of the various times I find a strand of hair in my meal. Disgusting!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, that's really ridiculous! Glass in food? Eww..
ReplyDeleteI've encountered a nail (fastener) in my food too, and it's a big one. That was the last time I buy food from there.
holy, how did they make the ravioli? from "scratch"? lol.
ReplyDeleteo my goodness! I am glad you are ok. That would have caused me severe trauma all night. Thinking I swallowed some glass and that i was dying on the inside. I am a bit melodramatic!
ReplyDeletePlus, OG is one of my Favs. Never had a bad experience there yet. Fingers crossed.
re. last line: oh cut it out rick! no pun intended. ;)
ReplyDeletebtw, you should have done the critique!! i know you have something to say. and i posted it already so maybe when you look at the pictures, youll realize YOU DO have an inner fashion critique trying to break out.
BOOOO! I wrote you a long comment and i lost it :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway, i was saying that i've had my share of surprises, especially when i lived in Hong Kong. One time when my family dined at a pasta restaurant (i'm seeing a pattern here, hahaha!) my brother found a piece of metal in his spaghetti. Another time, in HK's downtown, we saw someone buy food from a regular vendor. They found a piece of hair in the food....... when they pulled out the piece of hair, there was a cockroach attached to the end of it. O.o
Glad you got it out, lest it cut the throat should you swallow it. Ouch!
