Late last night I was sitting at the kitchen table sorting through mail. I could see the tv was on in the family room and I could hear that my wife wasn't watching it (she was snoring--but that's our secret). Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone cross in front of the tv, headed towards the laundry room. I expected to either hear the laundry room door open or to see the person walk into the kitchen (those are the only two options).
But neither happened.
I investigated and discovered my wife was in the room alone--and the kids were at the other end of the house, one in bed and one taking a shower.
So who did I see walk between the tv and the door to the kitchen?
My wife hasn't been feeling well. She has swollen lymph nodes and (completely unrelated) her wrist hurts. Soooo, we're considering that just maybe her mom paid a visit. The woman lived to take care of her kids when they were sick. So much so that they didn't have any idea how to take care of themselves after she had brain surgery. But that's a different story.
It doesn't matter if my imagination got the better of me last night or my mother-in-law was checking up on her daughter. The important thing is that my wife thinks it was her mom and that thought makes her happy.
So, do you think it HAD to be my imagination or do you think anything is possible???
Oooo, anything is possible! (Even though it's kind of freaking me out)
ReplyDeleteI used to have odd experiences all the time. It doesn't happen much anymore. But when it does, I'm usually tired--and either more receptive or more susceptible, depending on your point of view. :)
DeleteThat is so scary!! :o I wonder if it will ever be solved who it was in the end??
ReplyDeleteI think by the time I know for sure, I won't be able to share it with anyone (living)! :D
DeleteInteresting.....maybe your mil paid your wife a visit....paranormal is always interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's a fun change from the everyday grind. :)
DeleteI don't have an opinion about whether or not it was your imagination, but it sounds very strange. Possibly the laundry room door opened and you just didn't hear it. ??
ReplyDeleteI hope your wife feels better soon. It's bad enough to have one thing wrong, but two at the same time is especially nasty. :-(
Nope, no one was in the laundry room either. All of our permanent residents were accounted for.
DeleteI'm doing my best to take care of her. :)
For experience sake I hope it was your mom-in-law for sure! :D
ReplyDeleteThere was once while I was (alone) in my room with the door open, and from the corner of my eye I saw my sister run into the room next door (I mean I even heard her bare feet squeaking on the floor) and I assumed she needed to use the bathroom. I went to that room a few minutes later but there was no one! I asked my mom where my sister could've disappeared to and she told me that my sister wasn't even back from school yet. Eeeep! >.<
Yikes! That's a great experience. A long time ago I posted about someone turning lights on and off in my parent's house. My mom thought it was one of the daughters home from school, but it was too early. She was home alone.
DeleteIf your MIL is known to drop by, then sure, that could be it. Otherwise, I'd totally be freaked out! I think I am!!! But, like you said, whatever your wife thinks is the most important ;). So, the MIL do some laundry or leave some food? PS. THANK YOU for including me in your blog list on the left!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this would have been her first visit to our home. Last summer we had a family gathering at my father-in-law's house and everyone was outside, at the back of his yard. We could all see someone looking at us from the kitchen window. It was an odd experience...and comforting. Laundry would be nice, but I would really love it if she would dust for us. It would be a big help to our allergies. :)
DeleteI've had more than my share of odd experiences (real or imagined), most of which happened in my parent's house. I post about some of them around Halloween each year.
PS - When I smell stale cigarette smoke in my house, I can't help but wonder if my mom is paying a visit (since no one in our house smokes).
About the blog list, you have a terrific blog. Having it there makes me look good. :)
I'd RATHER think it was your mother-in-law than the alternative!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I didn't think of that. Yes, welcome MIL!
DeleteI think we'd all would just rather believe it was your mother in law! Or maybe you were daydreaming. Hope your wife feels better soon!

Always Maylee
Thank you! It's going to be a while before she recovers. She was at the doctor's office again today. Hopefully I can keep her under covers and feed her soup this weekend, instead of her going out (she was planning to visit thrift shops with a friend).
DeletePS - We believe (I think)! :)
sometimes i see things too, it's kind of weird, i hear they're spirits trying to get your attention. anyways, hope your wife feels better!!
ReplyDeleteThanks J! The logical part of me doesn't want to believe, but I've had too many experiences that are hard to explain. I saw my grandmother pretty clearly when I was little.
DeleteI hope that by now your wife has already recovered. If not, I wish her a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteI read this with a shudder. I have similar experience before in my parents home and I still hope it is my imagination.
I can't type now as it would be as long as a post. I might write it as a post next time.
Thank you, hopefully she will feel better soon. She got worse and is on another antibiotic and two inhalers. Sounds like she has pneumonia.
DeleteI hope to read that story some day!
