"First They Came..."

First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

--Martin Niemöller

We've had a rash of hate crimes in DC. A black teenager got shot in Florida for walking along a road. I could go on. I want to think these are isolated incidents, committed by a vanishing breed of morons. But then I hear extremely divisive rhetoric from our (supposed) politcal leaders and I worry.

If life, liberty and pursuit of happiness can be denied to some, it can be denied to all.

Let's stand together!

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to that guy. Everyday we read or watch news reports about situations and crimes like the one you stated above and it really makes feel sad and disgusted at the siok minds of the perpetrators of these crimes. If only Batman was real.

  3. Hate crimes can be the worst. Attacking innocent people just because of their social/racial membership... prejudice and discrimination are always so last season.

  5. There was this shooting in France the last days, and people say it has a rassistic background... it is really horrible that still in our time there are people not tolerant enough to respect each other...

Oh and yes, let's stand together!! :)

  6. I couldn't agree more. The FL incident was really unfortunate, and I feel terrible for the young man's family. WOW I look like a college student? What I'd give to go back in time to fix some decisions I made...
