Pretty as a picture!



Okay, so how did that even get to be an expression? ;P

Believe it or not, it's supposed to be quite a compliment. I've read (just today) that it originated (as a compliment) in the 1900's, which makes sense. I remember my grandpa used to say it once in a blue moon, when the situation warranted it. Clearly I'm a fan of old expressions.

As for the picture above, I mean no disrespect to its subjects--they're my kids' ancestors. I imagine them living on Spencer's Mountain, a proud, hard working family trying to eek out a living during tough times...people with a lot of character.

    I use a few old expressions too, and sometimes people will give me strange looks. And by people I really mean my kids. :-)

    You never told us you had ties to the Waltons!

    What a great pic! Old pics used to freak me out but now I appreciate them for what they are. Was this for a class project?

    :( Good idea to scan them then. I hope it won't be anytime soon either. I have heard of that store and took a peek online. The Peanuts and Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are adorable. My hair was cooperating yesterday.

    If I'm not mistaken, people didn't smile in pictures in the old days because it took too long to take a shot (much longer than the average person can hold a nice smile). So we have a lot of surly-looking folks in old photos.:)

    thats cool you have a picture like that, I've never seen the pictures of my ancestors... and ya thats true people didn't use to smile in pictures huh!

    It's great to reminisce the old days before our time. Without fail, it will always provoke a sense of gratitude ...
    1. for what our ancestors have laid out for us to where we are today; and
    2. for what we have today that back in the olden days our ancestors never had the privilege to.

    Next, any change of seeing more pics of RicAdeMus back back then other than the profile pic?

    Black and white pictures are just so intriguing at times. Hmm, if they are your kids ancestors, does it make it your ancestors too? Or are you already in the picture?
